2019 Harvest Update

“This was a beautiful yet interesting Harvest in the Napa Valley. The moderate summer temperatures resulted in a Harvest that tracked two weeks later than normal. The moderate weather and long growing season has ensured that the 2019 vintage will feature wines with naturally high acidity and fully developed flavors. As we move into the winter months, our new wines are tucked away in their barrels and the vines preparing to enter their long winter’s nap. Now, I find myself taking a deep breath and recalling with nostalgia the events of the 2019 season. Having been a Winemaker for more than 30 years, this is a familiar experience and I welcome this reflective state like an old friend. Like every Harvest that I have experienced, this one did not disappoint with its excitement, wonder, anxiety and surprises. As always, I am thankful that my thoughtful analysis and years of experience allowed me to make quick and good decisions during this hectic time. Now, what I have is great stories that enrich my life, and that I look forward to sharing with you when we release the 2019 vintages in the years to come!”

2018 Vintage Update

“The steady, warm 2018 growing season in the Napa Valley finished with a cool harvest. This ensured that grapes reached full ripeness while retaining naturally high acidity. Our recently released 2018 Silver Spur Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and dry with vibrant and ripe fruit flavors. Our 2018 Reata Cold Creek Ranch Chardonnay is structured and concentrated with bright acidity and memorable fruit intensity. The red wines are still developing in the cellar and we are looking forward to releasing them.”

2017 Vintage Update

“While 2019 is shaping up to be a strong, interesting and expressive vintage and our 2018 red wines are developing in the cellar, we are looking forward to your thoughts on the 2017 red wines. After several years of drought, the 2017 growing season in Napa Valley and Sonoma was strong with a cool, slow harvest which allowed red grapes to ripen gradually – developing aromatic notes and a nice acidity.”
